Course Description

This course gives you skills in writing clear correspondence that achieves results in a wide range of international business writing situations.

You learn to write clear correspondence for the most common everyday writing situations in international business. The course focuses on a wide range of correspondence types such as dealing with requests, giving good news and negotiating changes to contracts.

Full Syllabus

Each unit includes model messages, guidelines for writing, common writing problems, effective writing hints and tasks that give you practice writing a variety of correspondence.

You receive support and regular feedback about your strengths and weaknesses from your personal trainer and work together to make individual improvement targets.

After this course you will be able to:

  • write correspondence that quickly tells your reader what you want and when you want it, so you can prevent confusion and get quick results.

  • persuade others to take the action that you want by writing effective requests to get action in a variety of situations.

  • tackle difficult business writing situations such as apologies, complaints and writing to readers who don't reply.

  • write correspondence in preparation for a successful visit to a foreign business partner and build a positive relationship to enhance visit effectiveness.

Recommended Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of English grammar and sentence structure
  • Knowledge of an email program's basic functions
  • Some experience of writing business email

Technical Requirements

  • Internet browser (ie. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher)
  • Email software (eg. Outlook Express, Eudora, Lotus Notes)
